  • Must sell – Buy it NOW before it costs me another $600!
  • Needs TLC – To make it look decent I would have to spend 500 hours on it.
  • Loaded – Most of the extras don’t work but they are all there.
  • Non-Smoker – I’m not… but the car sure does
  • All original – including the butts in the ashtray
  • Project car – My wife and the zoning inspector have given me an ultimatum to get this piece of junk out of the driveway.
  • Very good condition – I admit to the obvious problems
  • Rare color – This azure peacock green was only used one time because it was so unpopular when the car was new!
  • Needs a little work – Go to Sears and buy the largest set of tools available before you buy it.
  • A little bit of rust – As in, “Just a little bit pregnant.”
  • Ran when it was parked – Fifteen years ago
  • All there or Complete This is the same man who has a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
  • Must see to appreciate Yeah, to appreciate what you are already driving!

Who we are...

The Hornets Nest Region AACA has 262 enthusiastic families (467 Adult members) dedicated to the love and preservation of vintage motor vehicles. The club roster lists over 275 drivable vehicles, with a few in models from the 1900s. The most senior car is a 1910 Stanley Steamer. Scattered among the automobiles are a number of trucks and two-wheelers.

The present club began in 1967 as a chapter of the North Carolina Region, AACA. Swapping parts and restoration tips are the lifeblood of any car club, and the group quickly organized their first flea market the following year. Twelve vendors spread their parts and told their stories in the parking lot of the Bradley Motel on Wilkinson Blvd. in Charlotte. Each year’s show became bigger and required more space. In the mid-1970s, the club teamed with the Queen City Model A Club for a joint show/sale at the Metrolina Fairgrounds.

With the membership growing, in 1983 the club petitioned the national organization to become its own “Region.” They concurred and the group became the Hornets Nest Region AACA.

IIn less than twenty-five years, this once small swap meet had morphed into the second largest car event on the eastern seaboard, The Charlotte AutoFair©, now held at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway near Charlotte. The spring and fall events attract thousands from all over the east coast to walk aisles of some 9,000 vendors.

The  goal of the AACA is to restore vehicles twenty-five years old, or older, to the condition as it left the factory when new. Restored vehicles are judged on the following basics: interiors restored using the original factory type materials and design, including all chrome and metal finishes; exteriors restored using colors and paint finish original to the vehicle, including all chrome and metal finishes; engine compartments restored to new condition with the type of engine original to the vehicle, including all accessories; chassis restored to new condition with all components as original.

The Hornets Nest Region promotes family involvement in all its activities. Some of the children are now “second generation” AACA members. Yearly scholarships are awarded for academic excellence. Many seminars are taught on all aspects of automobile restoration.

In addition to the showcase Spring and Fall Charlotte AutoFairs©, the club participates in annual Veteran’s Day and Christmas parades. The cars are very popular displays at nursing homes and retirement centers. Since our members like to DRIVE their cars as well as look at them, the Hornets Nest Region sponsors many weekend “drives” and tours.

Potential new members should contact the club office for more details
